Clan of Xymox

was also known as just Xymox at times and they were a darkwave gothic rock style band which was formed in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 1983. The members consisted of Ronny Moorings, Anke Wolbert, and Pieter Nooten. Ronnie Moorings is the only original member left in the group today. The group released their first EP called, Subsequent Pleasures, under the name of Xymox. The EP was self published. Ronny played the guitar and sang, Wolbert played bass guitar, keyboard, and also sang, and Nooten played keyboard and sang. The group went on a tout with Dead Can Dance (Brenden Perry and Lisa Gerrard) as a supporting band.

The band signed up with 4AD Records label in 1985. The band released their self titled album in 1985 and they went under the name of Clan of Xymox. They released their second album in 1985 and it was called, Medusa, which many fans believed to be their best of them all. The group released a track called, Lonely Is An Eyesore. This was a compilation which was a diverse variety of talent. Some of the groups on the album were Muscoviet Musquito, Dif Juz, and Dead Can Dance. Later the band left 4AD records and Pieter Nooten left the band. The group signed up with Polygram subsidiary, Wing Records label. The groupís album called, Twist of Shadows, in 1989 was the groupís most commercially successful album and it sold over 300,000 copies. There were three single releases from the album and they were called, Obsession, Imagination, and Blind hearts. The songs were heard both in dance and alternative circles. The group released their fourth album called, Phoenix, in 1991, and it was released worldwide. Pieter Nooten was back with the band on this one. This was the groupís last release on the Wing record label. The album was not as popular as the previous album.

Ronny Moorings ended the name Xymox, in 1997, and restarted the Clan of Xymox name for the group. They also signed up with the USA and German based Independent label called Tess records. Then they recorded and released the album called, Hidden Faces, in 1997. The group at that time consisted of Ronny Moorings, Mojca, Rui Ramos, and Nina Simic. They released a CD called, Live, and it contained nineteen tracks and two Quicktime videos. The tracks for the CD were recorded during the bandís tour of Central and South America, in 1999.

Their album called, Farewell, was released in 2003 and they released the album called, Breaking Point, in 2006. They also released a CD single called, Heroes, in May, 2007. The lineup of the band today is, Moorings, Mojca, Mario, Agnes jasper, Denise Dijkstra & Yvonne de Ray. The band has released a total of 24 albums as the Clan of Xymox.
