When in Rome
When in Romewas a band which was a combo dance, New Wave trio which was formed in England. The trio consisted of Clive Farrington (vocals), Andrew Mann (vocals, and Michael Floreale (keyboard player). In the beginning the trio was in the group, in Manchester, called Beau Leisure, with Corinne Drewery, a part time fashion designer. Corinne Drewery left the group in 1984 to form a more sophisticated pop band called, Swing Out Sister, with Andrew Connell and Martin Jackson. This left Farrington, Floreale, and Mann, and they went on to perform and called their group, When In Rome. The trio signed up with Virgin U. K. Record subsidiary label called 10 records. The producers were Ben Rogan (who had also worked with Sade), and Richard James Burgess (known for Five Star, Living In A Box, and Colonel Abrams, and Spandau Ballet). The producers took a special interest in When In Rome’s, The Promise. The recording was first released as a 12 inch dance disc. After the record became popular and hit the top of the Billboard’s Dance Club Play Chart, Virgin records ordered an album. Their self titled debut album produced the single called, The Promise. The song was re-mixed and was the first single from the album. The song was an immediate success and just missed the Top Ten chart in the United States, when it peaked at number 11.
Only months after the release of the self titled album, the group released , Heaven Knows. which reached the Billboard’s Pop charts, in 1990, at number 95. The Promise, was also featured on the 2004 movie, Napoleon Dynamite. The group is no longer together. Floreale now lives in Dallas, Texas and works both in production and touring of the newly formed When In Rome. The group did not have many releases like some artists did but they did have some followers. They only released 1 album and 4 singles. The album was called, When In Rome, and their singles were, The Promise (released in 1988), Heaven Knows (released in 1989), Everything (released in 1989), and Sight of Your Tears (released in 1989).
There have been many rock and roll, punk, New Wave, rap, and other styles of music over the years and many artists have come and gone. Not all artists have made it to the top but there have been many that have. Those who have made it to the top have endured a lot of stress, time spent a lot of money getting there. It also takes a lot of patience and it doesn’t hurt to know someone in the music industry or know someone who knows someone in the industry.
