Survivoris a rock band from America, and was formed in 1977 by Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. Other members of the group were Dave Bickler, Gary Smith, and Dennis Johnson. Peterik was formerly of the group, Ides Of March. He was their lead vocalist and guitarist. Survivor played in clubs for several years before they released their first album which was self titled and was released in 1979. The album was not as successful as the band had hoped it would be. Premonition, was the follow up album they released in 1981 and it was more successful than the previous album. From it cam the groupís first top 40 hit called, Poor Manís Son. Many fans today feel that this album was their best one ever released. Sylvester Stallone heard the song, Poor Manís Son and liked it so much he wanted one similar to it written for his theme song for the movie Rocky III. The group wrote the song, Eye of the Tiger, for Sylvester to use on the soundtrack for the movie. The song went to number one on the Billboard charts, and stayed there for 6 weeks. It also went to the top of the British Billboard charts. It was in the Top 40 for 18 weeks and was the number 1 single in Australia for 4 weeks. The band won a Grammy Award for the song and was voted the Best New Song by the Peopleís Choice Awards. Later in 1982, the band released an album with the same name, Eye of the Tiger. From the album came another top hit. American Heartbeat, reached number 17 in the U. S. The album also charted at number 2 in the U. S..
In 1984, Survivor released the theme song for the movie, Karate Kid. The song was named, The Moment of Truth and it went to number 63 in the U. S.. Their album called, Vital Signs, peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Album chart and from it came the single hits, I Canít Hold Back, which reached number 13 in the U. S., High On You, reached number 8 in the U. S., and The Search Is Over, went to number 4 in the U. S.. In 1985 they had another hit called, Burning Heart, which was a song on the Rocky IV movie soundtrack. The song went to number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Their album, When Seconds Count, was released in 1986, and from it came the hit, Is This Love, which reached number 9 on the U. S. Charts. The album went to number 49 on the Billboard Album chart. The album sold over 500,000 copies and went gold.
It was reported that Survivor has returned after a long break , to record another album. They have released 15 albums and compilations, and 20 singles.
