Russ Ballard

was born on October 31, 1945 in Waltham Cross, Herfordshire, England. He is an English singer, musician, and song writer. He was a guitar player with the group, Buster Meikle & The Day Breakers. His older brother also played keyboard for the group. He also played for The Roulettes then he went on to join the group, Unit 4 + 2 in the 1960's. Then he went on to become the lead singer and guitarist for the group Argent. He wrote the hit, God Gave Rock and Roll To You. The song was also performed by Petra and Kiss later on. In 1972, Russ performed on the album, Ennismore, which was Colin Bluestone’s. The album was produced by Chris White. The hit single, I Don’t Believe In Miracles, from the same album, was written by Russ. It was featured on the album. Russ left the group, Argent, in 1973 to pursue a solo career. He also continued his song writing. He wrote, Liar, for Three Dog Night and So You Win Again, for Hot Chocolate. He also wrote Since You’ve Been Gone for Rainbow and also I Surrender. His song, On the Rebound, reached number 58 on the charts in 1980. The band, Uriah Heep, also recorded the song in 1982. Russ also wrote and performed on the first two solo albums of Roger Daltrey.

Russ wrote the song New York Groove in 1975 and the British pop band, Hello, recorded it and it reached number 9 on the U. K. Charts and number 7 on the German charts. He also wrote and produced You Can Do Magic, for the group, America. This song reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1982. Russ was offered the job to produce America’s album, Your Move, the next year. The song, The Border, which Russ co-wrote with Dewey Bunnell, climbed to number 33 on the charts. The group, Kiss, also recorded some of Russ’s songs and they were successful and reached the charts. Russ wrote the song, I Know There’s Something going On, and it was recorded by Frida. It was a 1982 hit. The song, Voices, was featured on the Miami Vice episode called Calderone’s Demise, which aired on October 26, 1984. The song was from the album, Russ Ballard, and was a hit on rock radio stations. It peaked at number 15 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It also made it to just below the Billboard Hot 100, at number 110. His song, In the Night, was also featured on the Miami Vice show and it was featured on the episode called Calderone’s Return Part 1.
