Psychedelic Fursis an English rock band which was formed in the 1977. The group was originally called, RKO, then changed to, Radio. They changed their name to Psychedelic Furs and also The Europeans, and performed using both names for a while before they settled on Psychedelic Furs. The founding members of the band were Richard Butler (vocalist), Tim Butler (bass guitar player), Duncan Kilburn (sax player), Paul Wilson (drum player), and Roger Morris (guitar player). By 1979 they had added a sixth member, John Ashton, another guitar player, and they also replaced Paul Wilson with Vince Ely.
The band released their first album called, Psychedelic Furs, was produced by Steve Lillywhite, and was released in 1980. The album was a big hit and made it to the Top 20 in the U. K. And was also successful in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, and Australia. There was a version released in the U. S. But it was not successful in the U. S. The band did gain success in the U. S. In 1981 with their album they released called, Talk Talk Talk. The album was also a huge hit in the U. K. In 1982, the band changed again because Duncan Kilburn and Roger Morris left the group and the remaining members moved to New York. Two single hits came from the album, Talk Talk Talk, and they were, Dumb Waiters and Pretty In Pink. Pretty In Pink was re-recorded for the movie soundtrack, Pretty In Pink, in 1986 and the soundtrack went platinum.
The group released their album called, Forever Now, in New York, and from the album came the single hit, Love My Way, which was a hit in both the U. S. And the U. K..In 1984, the group released the album called, Mirror Moves. From it came the songs, The Ghost In You, and Heaven. Both of them charted in the U. K. But were not released as singles in the U. S.. Columbia decided to use their song, Here Come Cowboys, from the same album, to release as a single in the U. S. But it was not successful. The Ghost In You was a hit in the U. S.. Mirror Moves was also a hit in Canada and was listed as their number 1 LP of 1984. In 1986 the group re-recorded Pretty In Pink and it was their biggest hit at that time, in the U. S., and their biggest hit ever in the U. K..
The Furs continue to tour and release albums and have released a total of 15 albums and 20 singles during their carreer.
