Pet Shop Boys
Pet Shop Boysis a British pop, synthpop, duo which consists of Neil Tennant (vocalist, keyboard and guitar player), and Chris Lowe (keyboard player and vocalist). The duo has written most of their own songs and also songs for other artists. The duo has sold over 50 million records worldwide and were very successful during the mid 1980's. The duo is still recording today and have toured worldwide. They create pop dance music and this is part of their success. They have released thirty nine top 30 singles since 1986. Twenty two of those hits reached the Top 10 hits chart in the U. K., and four of those were number one hits. The number one hits were, Heart, West End Girls, Itís A Sin, and Always On My Mind. Their songs, West End Girls and Domino Dancing, were big hits in the United States.West End Girls reached number one on the Top Pop Chart and Domino Dancing made it to number 18 on the U. S. Pop chart in 1988. They are considered to be the fourth most successful dance artists ever in the U. S. Billboard Dance charts. They have gone on 4 world tours between 1991 to 2007.
Pet Shop Boys are still going strong and still releasing albums and singles. Their most recent album was called, Fundamental, and was released on the Parlophone Record Label on May 22, 2006. The album went to number 5 on the U. K. Charts and number 2 in other parts of Europe. In July, 2007, the duo signed a new contract with Parlophone Records. They also are signed with EMI and have been for over 20 years. The duo released a new compilation album called, Disco Four, in October, 2007. This is proof that they are still going strong and are not showing any signs of quitting any time soon.
The duo has had a long time backup singer, Sylvia Mason-James, as well as other musicians over the years. Some of them are Katie Kissoon, Danny Cummings, Jodie Linscott, Dawne Adams (percussion), Scott Davidson, Dominic Clarke, Mark Refoy, and Bic Hayes (guitarists), and the late J. J. Belle (guitar and percussion). For their Nitelife Tour in 199902000, they recruited Peter Schwartz as their musical director, programmer, and keyboard player.
The Pet Shop Boys are very interested in artwork, design, and photography so they have had a lot of interest in their record sleeves over the years. Their sleeves are minimal with very unique detail and font type and style. The duo has released a total of 31 albums, which includes compilations and re-mixes, and also fifty five singles to date.
