Platinum Blondehave not done a lot in their career but they will live on in some fans minds. They were popular mostly in the 1980's. The band consisted of Mark Holmes (vocal and bass player), Sergio Galli (guitar), and Chris Steffler (drums). Kenny MacLean later join them. They got their name, Platinum Blonde from the movie in 1931 which starred Jean Harlow. The movie was called Platinum Blonde. The group was well known for their rock like appearance and their pastel colored outfits and music videos.
The group released the album, Standing In the Dark, in 1983. They had four hit singles which were heard over the Canadian radio stations. They had one platinum album and two Juno nominated songs. The Juno Award is Canadaís National Music Awards. The two songs were, Standing In the Dark and It Really Doesnít matter. Their videos were shown on the national music video network in Canada. The group released their second album in 1985 and called it Alien Shores. It featured their newest and fourth member, Kenny MacLean. This album went quintuple platinum. The hits they had from this album were, Situation Critical, Crying Over You, Somebody Somewhere, and Hungry Eyes. They released their third album, Contact, in 1988, was a hit in Canada and even went platinum, but didnít make the grade in the United States. For their last release, the group changed their name to The Blondes. The album was Yeah Yeah Yeah. They also switched to their own label, Justin Entertainment. By 1991 the group was failing so they decided to part and do solos on their own. Mark Holmes went on to an acting career. He played in War of the Worlds, also in Eye For An Eye, and also in Eddie and the Cruisers: Eddie Lives.
In 1999 and in 2001, Mark Holmes toured with Dave Barrett and Sasha Tukatch, to promote their album, The Seven Year Itch. The album was a Platinum Blonde compilation of their best releases. As of July, 2006, the group has played for some charity concerts and there are rumors of another reunion of the original band. In 2005 there was supposed to be a Complete DVD Collection released but it is now scheduled for release in 2007. The collection will include nine music videos and several bonus features. The albums and singles released by the group were, Platinum Blonde, Standing In the Dark, Alien Shores, Contact, Yeah Yeah Yeah, Best of Live, and Seven year Itch were the albums. The singles were It Doesnít really Matter, Standing In the Dark, Sad Sad Rain, Not In Love, Crying Over You, Situation Critical, Somebody Somewhere, Hungry Eyes, Contact, Fire, Connect me, and Yeah Yeah Yeah.
