Neil Diamond

was born on January 24, 1941, in New York City, and is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He was one of the most successful singers from the 1960's to the 1980's. He grew up in the area of Brooklyn, new York. He sang in the school choir with Barbra Streisand. He received a guitar on his sixteenth birthday and this was when he learned to play. He dropped out of the New York University to pursue his music career.

Neil got his first recording contract in 1960 with Duel Records label. His duo was known as Neil and Jack. Jack Packer was a high school friend. Their first single, What Will I Do, was a flop. In 1962 Neil signed with Columbia Records label as a solo performer. He released the single, At Night, and was followed with Clown town. These did not make any stir either. So Neil went back to writing songs. Two of his successful songs that was sung by The Monkees was, Iím A Believer, and A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You. Iím a Believer was the Popular Song of the year in 1966. Neil had written, composed, and recorded these songs for himself but the cover conversions were released before his. This still gained him fame as a songwriter, singer, and performer. Neil signed a record deal with Bang records label in 1966. Solitary Man was his first hit on the music charts. Later he followed it with, Kentucky Woman, Cherry Cherry, and other hits. He was well on his way to stardom. In his first concerts, neil was the opening act for Hermanís hermits, The Who, and others. Neil signed a deal with MCA Records label of Universal Picturesíparent company, MCA, Inc.The label was called Uni Records at that time, which was in the late 1960's. Neil moved to Los Angeles, California in 1970. He released songs like, Crackl;iní Rosie, Sweet Caroline, and Song Sung Blue. Neil played at ten sold out concerts at The Creek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1972.He had a live double album recorded on August 24th 1972 and it was called Hot August Night.The album was number 1 in Australia for 26 weeks.

Neil Diamond continues to tour and record today. He had 12 songs released in 2005. The album made it to number 4 on the Billboard Album Chart. On December 31, 2005, he appeared on the Dick Clarkís New Yearís Rockiní Eve 2006. Neil continues to perform and is showing no signs of slowing down. He has been married twice but both marriages ended in divorce. Each marriage also produced two children so he is the father of four.
