Lords of the New Church

Lords of the New Church

was a punk rock group which consisted of four members from other well known bands in the 1970's. The band was formed in 1982 by Stiv Bators (vocals), from the group called Dead Boys, and Brian James (guitar player),was from the former band, The Damned. Other members consisted of Dave Tregunna (bassplayer and backup vocalist), from the band Sham 69, and Nicky Turner (drum player and back up vocalist), from the group Barracudas. The band didnít last but a few years and it was ended on stage, by Stiv Bators, on May 2, 1989, at the London Astoria.

The band was called The Lords by their fans and the bands image was a combination of bat cave rockerís style and glam punks. Michael Monroe, from the band called, Hanoi Rocks, was a guest on one of The Lordís albums and he played the saxophone. The bandís music was a much darker style of punk than what was the standard punk style. Chris Jones stated, in a BBC review, that the band existed in an alternative universe. This sounds like it meant they were in their own little world with their music. Their music existed of leather, lace, and Jack Daniels. And was more than just goth style.

The band was formed in 1982, ended in 1989, and was reformed in 2003, but without Stiv Bators. Bators died after being struck by a car in 1990, in Paris, France. Brian James and Dave Tregunna reformed the band and recorded a 10 song cd which they named, Hang On. They also toured Europe with Adam Becvare, who was the frontman for the band called, Lustkillers.

The Lords of the New Church recorded and released a total of 4 studio albums, and 1 live album, and 3 compilation albums. Their albums they released were, The Lords Of the New Church (released in 1982), Is Nothing Sacred (1983), The Method To Our Madness (1984), Psycho Sex (EP, 1986), Live At the Spit (1988), Killer Lords (1985), The Lordís Prayer I (2002), and The Lordís Prayer II (2003).

The band did not release many albums but they had many die hard fans and followers. There are many bands who were only around for a few years but they leave an impression on people while they are performing and fans will remember them. They will not be forgotten anytime soon and they may even comeback with more music in the future. The members of this group were pioneers in the punk rock era so they helped pave the way for the new style of music. This type of music is often associated with drugs and alcohol so many people do not like the music or the way the groups dress or perform. It takes different styles of music to please everyone but many parents do not approve of this style of music for their children to listen to. There are often profane language and sexual remarks as well as violent lyrics and comments about drugs and alcohol in the songs. which parents feel that would influence their children. Today there are many hard rock groups and also groups which do not sensor their lyrics and may or may lead a child to destruction of themselves or others around them.
