Kylie Minoguewas born on May 28, 1968 in Melbourne, Australia. She is the oldest of 3 children. Her sister, Danni Minogue is also a pop singer and her brother, Brendan, works as a news cameraman in Australia. Kylie is a pop singer, songwriter, and actress. The sisters began their careers as children on Australian television. At the age of eleven, Kylie appeared on soap opera such as Skyways, The Sullivans and the Henderson Kids. Kylie gave her first singing performance on the weekly music program, Young Talent Time. She achieved her success in 1986 with her role in Neighbors, another soap opera she starred in. She became the first person to win four Logie Awards in one event. The awards included the Gold Logie and she received it for the country’s Most Popular television Performer.
Kylie signed with Mushroom records in 1987 after performing The Loco-Motion at a Fitzroy Football Club benefit concert. The song was released as a single and renamed Locomotion. It reached number one and stayed there for seven weeks on the Australian music charts. It was also the highest selling single in the 1980's in Australia. She wrote I Should Be So Lucky with Gary Ashley (executive from Mushroom Records). It went to number one in the U. K. And in Australia. It was also a hit in other countries. Her debut album, Kylie, reached number one on the British Charts. It sold over 7 million copies worldwide. The re-released version of Locomotion made number 3 on the United States Billboard Hot 100 Chart and number one on the Canadian Singles Chart. Her song, It’s No Secret, was released in the United States only and it reached number 37 in 1989.
She has established one of the longest and most successful careers in contemporary pop music in Europe and Australia. Kylie’s sister, Danni, joined her on stage at times. Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988 and this put a halt to her performances and recording. She was hospitalized in Australia and received treatment. She underwent surgery in May, 2005. In July, 2005 she made her first public appearance since her diagnosis. She visited the children’s cancer ward in the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. She finished her chemo treatment in France.
In December, 2005, Kylie released a single, Over the rainbow. She continued recording material for a new album. Kylie also wrote a children’s book called The Showgirl Princess. She wrote the book while she was recovering from her cancer. She also has a perfume called Darling, which was launched in November, 2006. She is determined to continue her career and has a new album which was to be released in 2007.
