Kixis an American band that plays hard rock music and has been playing it since the 1980's. The group was founded in 1978 in Hagerstown, Maryland. At that time they were known as The Shooze. Then they changed their name to The generators. Eventually they settled on the name Kix. Their first album, Kix, was released in 1981 and it featured, Atomic bombs, Heartache, Contrary Mary, The Itch, The Kid, Love At First Sight, and Kix Are for Kids. The group had a follow up in 1983 called, Body Talk, which also became a hit single. It also contained a favorite of the girls, For Shame. In 1985 the group teamed up with, The Ratt and released the album, Midnite Dynamite which featured the sone of the same name as well as Cold Shower and Sex. It also included the song, Bang Bang Balls of Fire. The band moved west to California to make a name for themselves.
In 1988 the group released Blow My Fuse, and received their fame when it went platinum. The ballad, Donít Close Your Eyes was a hit and others soon followed. Popular singles from the album were, Blow My Fuse, and Cold Blood. They also had videos for the hits. The group became financially wrought when they discovered that they had signed a contract with Atlantic Records that left them with almost nothing. Contract disputes delayed their next album for three years. The album was called, Hot Wire and was finally released in 1991. The single, Girl Money was from this album. In 1995 the band released their final album, Show Business, on CMC records. The album bombed out. The Kix band broke up in 1995.
Later, Steve Whitman re-emerged as the lead singer for the local Hagerstown band, Funny Money. He is still working for them today. He also teaches voice at the musicianís Institute in Baltimore, Maryland and Triple R Guitar in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania. Jimmy Chalfant also joined the group as their drummer. Ronnie Younkins moved to Los Angeles and wrote, recorded, and released the album, The Slimmer Twins - Lack of Luxury.Once back on the east coast, he formed, The Blue Vultures - Cheap Guitars and Honky Tonk Bars. Brian Forsythe joined the Snakehandler and is on tour as a guitar player for Rhino Bucket. The group has got together occasionally for a few Kix reunion shows in the Maryland, Pennsylvania area. And they have had large crowds for them. So far, Donnie Purnell has refused to participate in any of the reunion performances. The studio albums that Kix were released are Cool Kids, Midnite Dynamite, Blow My Fuse, Hot Wire, and Show Business. They also had some Live albums.
