Johnny Hates Jazz

Johnny Hates Jazz

was an English band which was formed in 1986.. The group performed pop music. The group consisted of Clark Datchler (vocals and piano), Calvin Hayes (keyboard), and Mike Nocito (bass guitar). The name of the band was named so because they really did have a friend who hated jazz. The band released their first single, Me and My Foolish Heart, in1986 with RAK Records. After looking for a major record label to record for, they finally found Virgin records at the end of 1986, after they did a gig at a jazz club. In 1987 the groupís debut single, Shattered Dreams, was a big hit. Their debut album, Turn Back the Clock, also was successful and went to number 1 on the U. K. Albums chart. Datchler was the groupís lead singer and main songwriter and he left the group in 1988 and was replaced with Phil Thornalley, a former bass guitar player for the group, Cure. The band was involved in a car accident just a month before their second album, Tall Stories In 1992, was released. The keyboard player, Calvin Hayes was in a body cast for over a year. The band split up eventually because they could not get their act together again to record.

Datchler released his first solo album, Raindance , in 1990. The album was under the Virgin records label. From this, the single, Crown of Thorns, was released. Neither album nor single made much of an impact on the public. Two years later the album was released again only this time it was released in Asia and was renamed Fishing For Souls. The remix album had a new production by Rupert Hine and four new tracks but this version also went unnoticed. The band was almost forgotten until 2006 when Clark Datchler came back under the new artist name, Nightfoxx, A New Solo Album, Tomorrow. It was re-released in the spring of 2007 with a new track, making it a total of 12 tracks. That same summer, Datchler decided to go back to his own name, Clark Datchler.

The albums released by the group were, Turn Back the Clock and Tall Stories. Their compilations were, The Very best of Johnny Hates Jazz and The Best Of the 80's. Their singles were Me and MY Foolish Heart, I Donít Want to Be A Hero, Shattered Dreams, Turn Back the Clock, Heart Of Gold, Donít Say Itís Love, Turn the Tide, Let Me Change Your Mind Tonight, and The Last To Know. The group did not make it big but they will be remembered by their die hard fans. There were many bands that did not even get this far.
