John Lennon

was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England, and passed away on Decenber 8, 1980 when he was fatally shot by a man named Mark David Chapman. Chapman waited for John Lennon and his wife to return from the recording studio on December 8, 1980. He waited in the shadows until they arrived at their home around 10:50. Chapman called out to John and as John turned, Chapman shot him five times. John Lennon was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetary in Hartsdale, New York, and his ashes were kept by Ono, his wife. John had two sons, Julian and Sean. Julian was from his first wife, Cynthia, and Sean from his second wife Yoko Ono. John Lennon was voted number 8 in the list to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons in 2002. The Rolling Stones magazine voted him number 38 on their list of, The Immortals: The Fifty greatest Artists of All Time, and they ranked the Beatles as number 1.

John Lennon was a member of the popular music groups known Beatles. He was not only a singer, he was also a songwriter, musician, graphic artist, author, and peace activist. He wrote songs for the beatles and other artists as well. After the beatles broke up, he had a solo career of his own that was also very successful. Both of Johnís parents played the banjo and sang so music was in his blood. John had a half sister that he didnít know about and was never told. Johnís mom bought him his first guitar in 1957. The Quarrymen was the first band John was a member of while he was still in grammar school. He met Paul McCartney and they began writing songs together and also separately. Johnís first song was, Hello Little Girl. John was eighteen years old at the time. Later, George Harrison joined the group. He joined the group as lead guitarist. Stuart Sutcliffe (Johnís friend) joined as bass guitar player. The group eventually changed their name to Silver Beatles and later shortened it to just The Beatles.

The group was very successful from 1963 through 1969 when John quit the group and went solo. They had released many successful singles and albums. John also had albums and singles of his own which were very successful. Some of the beatleís hits were, Hard Dayís Night, I Saw her Standing There and many others. Some of Johnís solos were Imagine, Stand By Me, and Slippiní and Slidiní. The list goes on and on for both the Beatleís and Johnís solos.
