Fridais a 2 CD Compilation of songs by the Swedish singer, Anni-Frid Lyngstad (also known as Frida). The CD set was released in 1997 by the EMI Sweden record company. She also had a solo album called, Frida. The songs are recordings from 1967 to 1972 and are the pop style recordings. Anni-Frid was born on November 15, 1945 in Bjorkasen, Norway. She was a member of the Swedish pop band called ABBA. The CD compilation was a recording of the duet with Lars Berghagan. It was recorded in the spring of 1971 to promote the summer tour in the folkparks. The CD was originally released on the Polydor label.
Frida got her first job at the age of 13, in 1958, as a singer with a dance band. Later she became a member of a 15 piece band who performed a jazz repertoire covering for Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. Her musical vocal influences were Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee. She decided to form her own band in 1963, and called it Anni-Frid Four. She also married the bass player, Ragnar Fredriksson, who was only 17 years old. The couple had 2 children and then were divorced in 1970.
Frida won a national talent competition in the summer of 1967. She also was expected to appear on the tv show, Hylands Horna. Her performance on the show can be seen on the Frida the DVD. After that she went on to release many singles on the EMI label. These recordings can all be heard on the Frida 1967- 1972 CD compilation. Frida released her first album in 1971. The album was produced by her new fiancé Benny Andersson. From the album came her first number 1 Swedish hit called, Min Egen Stad, which means, My Own Town. She continued to play in cabarets and toured as well as performed on television and radio. Her connections with Andersson, and her friendship with Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog led to the forming of the group ABBA. Her next solo album, Frida Alone, was released in 1975 while she was involved with ABBA. 1982 was the last year for the ABBA group to work as a group. Frida released her first solo album in English called, Something Going On. The album topped the charts in the U. K. And also in Germany. It also reached the Top 50 in the U. S.. The album sold over 1 and 1 half million copies worldwide. A very successful single came from the album. It was called, I Know There’s Something Going On, and it topped the charts in Belgium, Costa Rica, and France. The song stayed at the top for 5 weeks. The song reached the Top 5 in Austria, The Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Australia, as well as other countries.
Frida continued releasing albums and singles and the total tally during her career was 9 album releases and 17 singles.
