Cutting Crewwas a pop and rock band which was formed in England in 1985. They are well known for their number 1 song, I Just Died In Your Arms. Nick Van Eede was the founder for the band. He and Kevin Scott MacMichael (Canadian guitar player) got together and made demos which led to a recording contract. This happened before bass player, Colin Farley and drummer, Martin Beadle joined the duo in 1986. The group released their first album called Broadcast, in 1986 and it was the first number one album for Richard Bransonís Virgin Records. From the album came the hit single, I Just Died In Your Arms. This was to be the groups most popular single during their musical career. The song reached number 1 in the United States and number 4 in the U. K.. Another hit from the album was, Iíve Been In Love Before, and it reached the Top 10 in the United States. The Cutting Crew received a Grammy nomination for the Best New Artist, in 1987.
The band broke up in 1993 and after that Kevin MacMichael joined with Robert Plant and played guitar on his Fate of nations album. The album received much critical acclaim. Kevin MacMichael died from lung cancer in 2002, on New yearís Eve, in his home in Nova Scotia. Kevin was 51 at the time of his death. Colin Farley (bass player in the 1980's) lives in Surrey and continues to work in the music business by playing with his new band in local pubs.
The Cutting Crew was reformed in 2006 by Nick Van Eede and there was a whole new lineup for the group. The group released one album called, Grinning Souls, in February, 2006. The album was released on the Hypertension Record label. The new group began touring Germany that same year and are planning other tours in the U. K. And Denmark.
The members of the Cutting Crew consisted of Nick Van Eede (lead vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboard player), Kevin MacMichael (guitar player), Colin Farley (bass player), Martin Beedle (drummer), and Tony Moore (keyboard player). Nick was born in East Grinstead, Sussex, England. Kevin was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Colin was born on February 24, 1959). Martin was born in Kingston upon Hull, East Yorkshire, England. Tony was born in Bristol, Avon, England.
The band released 4 albums during their career and 8 singles. The albums were, Broadcast (1986, reached number 16 in the U. S., number 41 in the U. K., and number 11 in Canada), The Scattering (1989), Compus Mentus (1992), and Grinning Souls (2006).
