Boy Meets Girl
Boy Meets Girlis a duo singing group which consists of a singers George merrill and Shannon Rubicam and a keyboardist. They are well known for their song, Waiting For A Star To Fall which was released in 1988. These two singers wrote a number of songs for other artists and among them were two number 1 songs. These were written for Whitney Houston and they were, How Will I Know, and I Wanna Dance With Somebody Who Loves me. They also wrote the songs, Haunting Me, Don’t Tell me We have Nothing, for Deniece Williams, and , I Know You By Heart was sung by Bette Midler on The beaches soundtrack. The duo were backup singers on the song, Let’s hear It From The Boy, sung by Deniece Williams. George Merrill also sang backup for Bette Midler on her, Some People’s Lives, album.
Boy Meets Girl write songs and many times will produce a demo version of their song before it is given to another artist. Their song, Waiting For A Star To Fall, reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It was also a top 10 Australian hit in April, 1989. It is featured in the movie, Three Men and A little lady. The song had been offered to Whitney Houston but it was rejected. Boy Meets Girl’s next single, Bring Down the Moon, hit the charts as number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 28 on the Adult Contemporary. Their album, Reel Life, contained both singles and spent several at number 50 in the U. S. And went to number 75 in the United Kingdom. Reel Life was preceded by a debut album, Boy Meets Girl, in 1985 and it had on it a single, Oh Girl, which peaked at number 39 and the album reached number 76.
The couple has continued releasing albums and new versions of their demo tapes which they originally did for Whitney Houston. The couple divorced in 2000 but continue to work together. Their fourth album is called, Wonderground, and it was released on their own label. They arranged for RCA records to re-release their two RCA albums. They re-released their debut album. Which was recorded for A&M records just recently. Their various artists album, Number One With A Bullet, contains the original demo tape for, I Wanna’ Dance With Somebody Who Loves Me. George Merrill has been working with Ian Hopkinson who is also an artist, in a writing and a production capacity for a new CD which is expected to be released in October, 2007. The duo has made their mark in the music world.
