Belinda Carlisle

was born on August 17, 1958 in Hollywood, California. Her given name was Belinda Jo Carlisle and she is a lead vocalist and the founding member of the New Wave group, Go-Gos. She is also a successful solo artist. The Go-Gos were very popular in the 1980's. They got involved with drugs and sex while together and years later, during an interview, Carlisle stated that they used to have female groupies.

Carlisle first worked as a drummer for the punk band, The germs, and went by the name of Dottie Danger. After she left the band, she formed the Go-Gos which they originally called themselves, The Misfits. Other members of the group were her friend, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey (bass guitar player), Kathy Valentine (bass guitar player), and Gina Schock (drummer). The Go-Gos were one of the most successful American bands in the 1980's. They were also the first all female band to release a number 1 album in the history of rock and roll. The group wrote their own material and played their own instruments. Two of the albums they released were called, Vacation, which went gold because of the title track, and Head Over heels, which was from their album Talk Show, which made the Top 40 chart. Their multi-platinum success was due to their hits, We Got the Beat, and Our Lips Are Sealed.

Carlisle left the Go-Gos in 1985 to seek a solo career. She did continue to work with Charlotte Caffey. Her first solo album was Belinda, and it was released with the I. R. S. Records label in 1986. She had a number 3 hit called, Mad About You, and it was closely followed with I Feel the Magic., and also by the cover version of, Band of Gold. She also had songs on soundtracks, one of which was, In My Wildest Dreams. This song was the opening song in the movie, Mannequin. She also recorded the song, Dancing In the City, which was used in the Whoopie Goldburg movie, Burglar. Belinda continued to record and release albums and singles and in 1999 she released a greatest hits album in the U. K.. It was a double disc album and was on the Virgin label.

Belinda married Morgan Mason in 1986 and they have a son who was born on April 27, 1992. She continues her career with appearances on tv in 2006, and also performed on the opening night of Manchester Gay Pride 2007. She also performed a set with others from the 1980's at Retro Fest on September 1, 2007 at the Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland. She has released 9 albums and 10 singles during her career.
