Alannah Myles

was born on December 25, 1958 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Allanah is a Canadian singer, songwriter who began in 1989 and continues to sing today. She grew up in Toronto and Buckhorn. Her family owns a ranch and she learned to ride horses while she was growing up. She wrote her first song when she was 8 years old. It was called, Ugly Little Cabbage In the garden. Which was a song for her sister because she was teasing her.

Alannah began performing when she was 18. She performed in Southern Ontario. She eventually met Christopher Ward and formed a band. They performed cover songs for Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, and The pretenders. She got gigs in clubs by convincing the managers of the clubs that her original songs were cover songs from other groups. She later joined with David tyson and this completed her band. She and Christopher had an acting role in the television series, The Kids Of Degrassi Street. Alannah played the part of an aspiring singer and a single mother.

Alannah’s first debut album was self titled and called, Alannah Myles. From the album came the single, Black Velvet, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was a hit in four other countries as well. Three other single hits also came from the album. They were Love Is, Lover of Mine, and Still Got This Thing. Her song, Black Velvet, was said to be the most played song on the radio in 1989. It also won her a Grammy for Best Female Rock Performance, and several Juno Awards. Rockinghorse was Alannah’s follow up album which was released in 1992. From this album also came 3 hit singles. They were Song Instead of A Kiss, Our World, Our Times, and Sonny, Say You Will. Alannah received a Grammy nomination and 3 Juno Awards. In 1995 Alannah released the album, A-lan-nah, but it did not have any top 40 singles from it. It did have 2 Top 100 hits from it and they were called, Family Secret, and Blow, Wind, Blow. The album was not as popular as the previous two but it still went platinum. Alannah left Atlantic records in 1997 and signed on with ARK 21 records. She released the album Arrival and it had one Top 40 hit from it called, Bad 4 You. In February of 2005 Alannah joined with the Swedish band, K2, and Kee marcello, and they participated in the third semi-final of Melodifestivalen. This was the Swedish national version for the Eurovision Song Contest. Their song, We Got it All, did not receive very many points and they finished 7th out of 8 songs.

Alannah continues to tour today and has recorded a new album called, black Velvet. She has released 6 albums and 12 singles.
